Orton-Gillingham Instructor Training – OGA Certified Level

(Cert 1 & Cert 2 Coursework + Practicum)

*This course is certified by the Orton-Gillingham Academy.

Prerequisite: Associate Level Certification through OGA

This OGA Certified Level course is intended for individuals who have achieved Associate level membership with the Academy and wish to hone their practice. The Certified member will be able to explain the underlying principles, concepts and procedures of the Orton-Gillingham approach and how it teaches the structure of the language. They will be able to interpret diagnostic evaluations, administer relevant diagnostic testing, write case histories and work with complex students.

  • Cert 1: 2022 – TBA
  • Cert 2: Nov 6, Nov 20, & Dec 4, 2021 – 8:30am – 4:30pm at Fraser Academy, 2294 West 10th Avenue, Vancouver, BC.

Applications for the Certified Level practicum can be made at any time. The practicum may run in parallel to coursework.

After completion of Cert 1, Cert 2, and the Practicum, applications for the Certified level of membership to the Academy can be made.

There will be 20 hours of Asynchronous online work over 6 days. 

  • 9:00 am – 10:30 am Synchronous Online Training 
  • 10:30 am – 10:45 am Break
  • 10:45 am – 12:00 pm Synchronous Online Training 
  • 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm Lunch 
  • 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm Synchronous Online Training 
  • 2:30 pm – 2:45 pm Break 
  • 2:45 pm – 3:30 pm Synchronous Online Training

OG Certified Level Practicum

  • Over a minimum of 2 academic years
  • Minimum of 10 observations teaching 1:1 lessons
  • 45-60 lessons twice per week on nonconsecutive days

Colleen Chow, Fellow of the Orton-Gillingham Academy, NILD Professionally Certified Educational Therapist (PCET), has been a Learning Specialist at Fraser Academy since 2008 and is currently the Director of Learning Services.

How to Apply

To apply for the Certified Level OG course, submit an application package via the “Apply Now” button. The requirements are as follows:

  • Associate Level Certification through OGA
  • Post-secondary degree (highest level of education earned to be specified in your application)

  • Verification of Associate Certification
  • Previous Orton-Gillingham based or related training (1 paragraph input on application form)
  • Resume (attach as a PDF)
  • Letter of Reference (attach as a PDF)

OG Certified Level 1: $1500

OG Certified Level 2 : $1500

OG Certified Level Practicum

  • TBA

  • Interac e-transfer to the email address accountspayable@fraseracademy.ca (no security answer is necessary).
  • Credit card at fraseracademy.plastiq.com (this option incurs a 2.85% administration fee charged by Plastiq).
  • Online banking with BMO, HSBC, Scotiabank, or any credit union by setting Fraser Academy Association as the payee and using your first name and last initial (in upper-case letters and without space) as the account number.
