Orton-Gillingham Certified Level Instructor Training

(Part 1 Coursework, Part 2 Coursework, and Practicum)

*This course is certified by the Orton-Gillingham Academy (OGA).

Prerequisite: OGA Associate Level Certification

This OGA Certified Level course is intended for individuals who have achieved Associate Level membership with the Orton-Gillingham Academy and wish to hone their practice. The Certified Level member will be able to explain the underlying principles, concepts and procedures of the Orton-Gillingham approach and how it teaches the structure of the language. They will be able to interpret diagnostic evaluations, administer relevant diagnostic testing, write case histories and work with complex students.

Part 1
Part 1 Coursework is being offered fully online, and includes the following sessions:

  • July 24-29, 2023 (Monday-Saturday, 8:30 am – 3:00 pm)

Part 2: TBA

Applications for the OG Certified Level Instructor Training Practicum can be made at any time. The practicum may run in parallel to coursework. OG Certified Level Instructor Training Part 1 and Part 2 courses can be taken in any order.

After completion of OG Certified Level Instructor Training Part 1 and Part 2, and the Practicum, applications for the Certified Level of membership to the Orton-Gillingham Academy can be made.

There will be 20 hours of Asynchronous online work over 6 days.

Online Synchronous & Asynchronous

  • Advanced history of the English language 
  • Advanced morphology

  • Reading comprehension instruction 
  • The Certified lesson plan

OG Certified Level Instructor Training Practicum

  • Over a minimum of 2 academic years
  • Minimum of 10 observations teaching 1:1 lessons
  • 45-60 lessons twice per week on nonconsecutive days

Colleen Chow is the Executive Director, Training & Learning at Fraser Academy. Ms. Chow is an Accredited Training Fellow of the Orton-Gillingham Academy (OGA), an International Dyslexia Association (IDA) Certified Dyslexia Specialist, and a Professionally Certified Educational Therapist (PCET) through the National Institute of Learning Development (NILD).

  • Verification of OGA Associate Level Certification
  • Previous Orton-Gillingham based or related training (1 paragraph input on application form)
  • Resume (attach as a PDF)
  • Letter of Reference (attach as a PDF)

OG Certified Level Instructor Training Part 2: $1500

OG Certified Level Instructor Training Practicum

  • $225 per observation
