Suzanne Huopalainen has been with Fraser Academy since 2011. She is the Director of Teaching and Learning, and the acting Math Department Head. Ms. Huopalainen holds a Bachelor of Science in Science Education from Florida State University and a Master of Education from Simon Fraser University in Educational Leadership Imaginative K-12. She is a Professionally Certified Educational Therapist through the National Institute of Learning Development (NILD), and also an International Dyslexic Association (IDA) Certified Dyslexia Specialist. 

Ms Huopalainen is the co-creator of Fraser Academy’s school-wide executive function curriculum and has presented at the Westcoast Executive Functioning Conference in California and the ResearchILD’s Learning Differences Conference at Harvard Graduate School on “Creating an Executive Functioning Culture: Fraser Academy’s Journey.”

Ms. Huopalainen oversees the onboarding of new staff to Fraser Academy ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge and support to deliver effective and engaging teaching practices. She believes a learning difference is a teaching difference, where educators need to ask questions about their students, understand their learning profiles, and adjust their practice to ensure each child is given the opportunity to reach their full potential.
