Who We Are

Maureen Steltman was appointed as Head of Fraser Academy in June 2008. She brings a wealth of experience to her role in leading the school, previously as Fraser Academy’s Director of Development, where she established a successful development strategy, and as a member of the school’s Executive Leadership Team, where she demonstrated outstanding leadership skills and management abilities.
In addition to her managerial experience, Mrs. Steltman brings to her position a personal understanding of the challenges that face students with language-based learning disabilities: she is the parent of two Fraser Academy graduates, and she is dyslexic herself. Not that this learning difficulty has ever held her back: Mrs. Steltman holds a Master in Business Administration (Royal Roads University), Independent School Teacher Certification and an Orton-Gillingham training certificate. As Mrs. Steltman says, “Dyslexia is only a disability if it stops you from doing what you want to do. The goal of Fraser Academy is to empower students to take charge of their challenges and become independent life-long learners who live productive, fulfilling lives with meaningful work and relationships.”
Mrs. Steltman is a champion of the Orton-Gillingham multisensory approach and the personalized, one-to-one attention that have been successful learning tools for Fraser Academy’s many students past and present. Since Mrs. Steltman’s appointment, the School has adopted a model of continuous improvement. Through an ongoing study of best practices, Fraser Academy continues to emerge as a leader in education across North America.
