Colleen Chow is the Executive Director, Training & Learning at Fraser Academy. Ms. Chow is an Accredited Training Fellow of the Orton-Gillingham Academy (OGA), an International Dyslexia Association (IDA) Certified Dyslexia Specialist, and a Professionally Certified Educational Therapist (PCET) through the National Institute of Learning Development (NILD). She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from York University and a Masters of Arts in Education with a focus on Reading Science from Mount St. Joseph University.
Ms. Chow found herself on the path to explore Orton-Gillingham when her son was diagnosed with dyslexia. What started as a need, became a passion with a goal to understand how children learn to read. She joined Fraser Academy in 2008. Ms. Chow regularly trains educators in the Orton-Gillingham approach both at Fraser Academy and in the wider community, and is a regular presenter at conferences. Ms. Chow believes the structured literacy approach can provide educators with the appropriate tools and knowledge to effectively meet the needs of all students in their classes. She is passionate in her belief that by empowering students with foundational skills, they will build confidence through competence, and thereby experience success.
