Md/Sr Math Teacher Email

Alex Skyba joined Fraser Academy in 2023 after transitioning from a career in research to education. His academic path began with a Master’s degree in Biotechnology in Kyiv, Ukraine, followed by a Ph.D. at ETH Zurich in Switzerland. He later moved to Vancouver, where he studied how fungi can naturally break down plant material to help create biofuels. During this time, he also traveled to rural communities across BC, leading hands-on STEM workshops for high school students. That experience sparked his passion for teaching, leading him to pursue a B.Ed. at UBC.

At Fraser Academy, Mr. Skyba focuses on making math meaningful, relevant, and accessible for all learners. He helps students strengthen their problem-solving and critical thinking skills, while also encouraging them to use math and data as tools to better understand the world around them. He values the unique strengths that neurodiverse learners bring to the classroom and fosters an inclusive environment where different approaches to problem-solving are celebrated.

Outside of school, Mr. Skyba is passionate about learning languages and building on his multilingual abilities. He also enjoys hiking new trails, stand-up paddling, volunteering at festivals, and creating 3D modular origami art.
