Soccer Opening Week
Match report by Coach MacKinnon
Our first game against Andre Piolat was a learning experience for both the players and the coaching staff. The score at halftime was 2 -2 and we were very much in the match. However, it was a tale of two halves and we ended up losing the match 9-3. The boys are a resilient bunch, though, and they didn’t get down on each other and played hard to the final whistle. We can all be proud of how they represented both themselves and the school.
In our second match, we changed things up and tried a new formation. We started the match a man down and were fortunate to add a player 10 minutes into the game. To be honest, I am trying to remember when I have been more proud of a team that I have coached. In only their second game together, the boys truly worked hard for one another. They switched positions seamlessly, covered for a teammate when he made a run forward and believed in one another. While we lost 1-0, I felt we were the better team and created more goal-scoring opportunities. The fact that we played with 9 or 10 players in the heat against a team with ample subs says everything about their commitment!
Next week, we will practice on Wednesday from 3:45-4:45 and we play in South Surrey on Thursday.
Thank you to all the parents who have come out to support the team!
Go Mustangs!!
