The Junior Boys Basketball team had a strong finish to their season last week as they competed in the first round of the GVISSAA Playoffs at Southpointe Academy. The team secured the last playoff spot in the West Division and competed against the #3 team in the East Division.
We had a powerful start as we had an early 11-2 lead. Unfortunately, the lead was short lived as Southpointe made a furious comeback and took a 5 point half time lead. Southpointe continued to pour it on and had the largest lead of the game leading by 15 points heading into the 4th quarter.
However, our ‘never say die’ Mustang attitude was on full display in the final frame as we mounted a furious come back led by Cam H. and Cam T. We cut the lead to 5 points with just over 3 minutes remaining and a potential upset was brewing. Unfortunately, our anemic shooting woes returned in the final minutes as we missed numerous layups and could not complete the epic comeback and lost the game 47 – 55.
Cam H. stood out on the court as he flirted with a triple double scoring 18 points and snagging 11 rebounds and 6 steals. Cam T. and Callum R-T also scored in double figures recording 13 and 12 points.
Overall, it was an exciting season with many highlights including a triple overtime loss to North Shore power house Argyle Secondary and a bronze medal at the Jr. Boys ISABC championships. Thank you for a great season boys!
