Bantam Girls Season Opening Report by Coach Sun

The Bantam Girls opened their season on Monday with a doubleheader against Stratford  Hall and Regent Christain Academy. The Mustangs drew the home team first and with a vocal crowd behind them the Stratford Hall team powered past our girls two games in a row.

Despite the lopsided result of the first game, the team showed excellent grit and resilience and battled Regent Christian 25 – 23 and 25 – 23 scores and were unfortunate not to have won both. Standouts in the games were Kendry T whose fleet footwork on serve receives kept us in the game. Congratulations as well to Sophie C for her outstanding serves in the games.

In the second game of the week, the team was playing without the grade 9’s who were away on the Black Tusk camping trip forcing the younger players to gain some valuable experience. In the first game, the girls took early control of the game behind outstanding serving and serve receive. Unfortunately, it was not meant to be as Carver Christian held on for a 25 – 21 win. In the second game, our serving was not as consistent as the first game, enabling Carver to take early control of the game and win going away 25 – 14. Kendry T was once again outstanding with her cat-like quickness digging numerous balls and turning for sure points for Carver into points for the Mustangs.

Despite only having 2 practices so far this season, Coach Sun acknowledges the girls have shown tremendous improvement and predicts they will soon get their first win!

Go Mustangs!
